The recent appointment of former Migori MP Owino Likowa as the board chairman of the South Nyanza Sugar Company limited by President Uhuru Kenyatta is slowly renewing the old political rivalry that has characterized Migori County politics.

Whereas former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko has seemingly welcomed the appointment, Uriri lawmaker Mark Nyamita has faulted the decision, and as a result, the two are on a collision path.

Ayacko has dismissed Nyamita's position over the appointment of the former MP. But in a swift rejoinder, the Uriri legislator told off the former Cabinet Minister saying that he (Ayacko) had failed to respond to the issues he had raised regarding the appointment and instead diverted the attention to the performance of Migori County Government under the leadership of Governor Okoth Obado.

While warning Ayacko against "unnecessary" attacks on the Governor, Nyamita said that the former Minister was rejected by the electorate during the 2017 poll, and should therefore give Obado time to perform his duties.

"The people of Migori had an opportunity to elect their leaders of choice in 2017. In their great wisdom, they gave the mantle of governorship of Migori County to H.E Okoth Obado. The electorate rejected his opponents and pretenders to the throne who were sent to the holding area for political jokers," Nyamita said in a statement on his Facebook page.

Ayacko, a key Raila ally, lost to Obado in the 2017 Migori County gubernatorial race.
