Wajir Senator Dr. Abdullahi Ali further accused the government of succumbing to Al-Shabaab’s efforts to divide Kenyans.

Mr. Ali said that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is falling into an Al-Shabaab trap by allowing non-local teachers to leave the region.

Speaking at Parliament buildings, Mr. Ali warned that teachers leaving the region would negatively impact the education sector.

The senator said that the decision by TSC to withdraw non-local teachers from Wajir County was a violation of the rights of the innocent children.

Mr. Ali urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Willian Ruto to intervene in the matter and ensure that teachers return to their workstations so that learning will continue.

“The TSC has fallen to a trap by Al-Shabaab and their action is only meant to divide Kenyans. We are asking President Kenyatta and his deputy to intervene and have the decision by the commission rescinded immediately,” said the senator.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has transferred more than 900 non -local teachers from the region following an attack on February 16 at Qarsa Primary School.

The attack left three non-local teachers dead and since then non-local teachers working in the region have been demanding to be transferred to safer areas.
