Despite being constitutionally re-elected in the October 26 presidential re-run, Uhuru has been battling claims of illegitimacy, with opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) downplaying his leadership.

With over a half of the electorate failing to show to vote on the date, a majority of whom boycotted the process on the orders of the NASA brigade, Kenyatta has been tagged the unconstitutional head of state with the opposition refusing to acknowledge his leadership.

However, this seems to have changed immediately after a 2-hour closed door meeting between the Orange party leader and Kenyatta at his Harambee House offices on March 9, where the leaders vowed to bury the hatchet and collaborate on matters national healing.

As a result, the President seems to have all of a sudden gained respect from the opposition leaders, with a section, including Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, referring to him as ''His Excellency the President''.

The NASA second in command, who is however yet to approve of the Odinga-Kenyatta pact, recently acknowledged Uhuru's Presidency when kicking off a push for fresh deliberations on national cohesion.

"We are also interested in holding a meeting with His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta. We will reach out to him upon his return from Cuba," Musyoka told the press in Machakos last Wednesday.

Other opposition leaders have as well referred to Kenyatta as the President of Kenya, with the latest one being Makadara lawmaker George Aladwa in an interview on Radio Citizen Tuesday.
