President Uhuru Kenyatta may have after all been aware of intentions by Nairobi deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe to resign.

In unprecedented move on Friday, Igathe bolted out of City Hall despite ongoing talks to reunite his with Governor Mike Sonko.

"I wish to thank the People of Nairobi for giving me opportunity to serve. Due to the governor's inability to trust me, I have no option other than to quit," he said.

Prior to August elections, Sonko had agreed to play political component while it had been agreed by top Jubilee politicians that Igathe would take over management of the county.

But a Nyamira based politician who also serves as City Hall lawyer, claims that Igathe met President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday and briefed him about the intentions.

"Basically I don't think the minor disagreements should have led him to quit. I am reliably informed that he met the president prior to his flight to South Africa.

"I really don't know what they discussed but let's stop hiding from reality. The president was quit aware," he said when he spoke in confidence.

With State House remaining mum, Sonko is said to have been agitated by Igathe's over state house links meant to 'micromanage' him in running city affairs.

A local daily last year exposed friction within the City Hall, claiming that State House was running the show, a move that made Sonko uncomfortable.
