They said that the girls were fond of parading along Kisii town streets especially at night in search of clients.

Asking the police to intervene and contain the situation they said that prostitution was the biggest reason the spread of HIV in the town was going up.

"Police officers should end this for once and for all by arresting afew and arraigning them in court. That way they can help contain the situation," said Jemimah Anyona who led the traders.

Anyona further revealed that they were planning to hold an education conference and invite all stakeholders to come and share on what they understand about the issue.

"Majority of the commercial sex workers in Kisii town are varsity students which is very discouraging. Its time we came together to ensure sanity is restored in Kisii town," she said.

Anyona further requested mothers to speak to their girls and provide enough advise to them for the sake of saving their daughters.

Its not the first time students in tertiary institutions have been accused of being commercial sex workers.

Last year, Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof Akama told parents that most girls in the institution were engaging in the trade.
