According to Swanya, the Gusii community has produced leaders who are capable to serve at various top positions in either government or opposition.

"I hear some communities claim that the Gusii community leaders are egocentric. I wish to clarify that leaders from the Gusii community are hardworking and development oriented.

"The leaders we have like Interior CS Fred Matiang’i have proved to be performers and still we have more people who have not been given the opportunities to serve in public offices,” he said.

He urged leaders from Kisii and Nyamira Counties to unite and speak in one voice especially when negotiating for the national cake.

“What we lack as a community is unity. Leaders from the 2 Gusii counties should come together and ensure they speak in one voice for the sake of bringing development in the Gusii region to benefit our people,” he noted.

Swanya urged Nyamira governor John Nyagarama and his Kisii County counterpart James Ongwae to initiate several development projects to the boost the living standards of the people.
