We will continue buying maize from farmers says, CS Bett
The government through the Ministry of Agriculture will continue buying maize from farmers until its exhausted.
CS Agriculture Will Bett said the government has released another sh 1 billion to pay farmers who have delivered their maize to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
“We have bought over 1.1 million 90 kg bags and we expect to buy 1.5-2.5 million 90Kg bags at the end of the season. We urge farmers to bring their maize to our depots since they will be paid promptly after delivery,” he said at the Eldoret NCPB depot during the eye clinic, Saturday.
“We are determined to buy maize from over 100 lorries per day, this will ensure that farmers don’t stay in the queue for long because they incur a lot of costs,” he added.
He said they will help farmers to increase their production through giving out subsidized farm inputs for the country to be food secure.
