When the National Super alliance (NASA) was formed, one of the entrants into the political deal was Moses Wetang'ula led Ford-Kenya party.

Together with Musalia Mudavadi's ANC, Kalonzo Muyoka's Wiper party and Raila Odinga's ODM, the leaders formed the a coalition meant to challenge the Jubilee party in the August 2017 elections. The coalition however lost in the election and has since been challenging the government on several topics among them electoral justice and alleged extrajudicial killings.

However, the meeting between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta last week has unearthed wrangles within the coalition and a major casualty seems to be Wetang'ula who faces to an axe as the Senate Minority leader.

The Bungoma senator has no one to blame except himself when he decided to engage with the other leaders in the NASA coalition. Wetang'ula might have forgotten the idea of having elected numbers in all elective levels when he engaged ODM, ANC and Wiper parties and that is why he has no one to defend him from ODM's onslaught.

At the moment, ODM boasts of numbers in the senate and that is why they are planning to evict Wetang'ula from his position as the Minority Leader of the Senate. Not even the hard talk from his fellow NASA principals Mudavadi and Kalonzo seem to be his salvation.

Wetang'ula should have weighed the impact of what he was getting himself into when he decided to join NASA. After all, there are not permanent enemies in politics as Kalonzo has worked with Raila who he apparently betrayed in 2007, Mudavadi has worked with Raila who apparently betrayed in 2013 and Raila himself has decided to bury the hatchet and work with Uhuru.

As Wetang'ula ponders his future, he should consider what he gets into when forming political unions with other leaders from different parts of the country. At the moment, he will need the sympathy from his ODM counterparts to survive the forthcoming onslaught.
