For months, the de facto Gusii kingpin found himself under unfamiliar territory after being toppled by YK92 operative Geoffrey Asanyo, a rather silent operative within KANU.

The infamous lobby group that defended Moi's regime, was directly operating under former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo and Deputy President William Ruto.

At the time, Nyachae had gone to Nyamira for a function, only for Asanyo to lead a group of KANU delegates to oust Nyachae as KANU branch, Kisii chairman.

"It is a question of younger, more active blood assuming leadership. The branch has been dormant," said Asanyo.

He added: "The office bearer is careless and does not bother to revamp the party. We had not option other than to discipline him."

The youthful leader cum serious wheel dealer, was first elected as Councillor in 1992 in Nakuru before trying Nakuru Town constituency leadership in 1997.

Later, he moved to Kisii where he gave political heavyweights among them Nyachae serious headache.

While most of YK92 operatives would later become top political protagonists in Kenya, Asanyo exited the scene and is now active in his businesses.
