Mutuku, 29, was then charged with hacking Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) systems and causing the loss of about Sh4 billion.

He, however, did not take a plea after cybercrime officials asked for more time to conduct their investigations.

State Prosecutor Edwin Okello argued that Mutuku, who was accused of being part of a syndicate with connections outside the country, allegedly used high tech software to gain access to the taxman's systems.

"It is a case of remote control hacking where the suspects operate smoothly with their machines and the next minute you realise you have no money in your account. The information we have is just a tip of the iceberg. The racket is big and involves people outside the country," said Mr Okello.

The prosecutor asked the court to detain the suspect for 40 days, to allow officers to complete investigations into the matter.

In his ruling on March 21, 2017, Chief magistrate Francis Andayi, however, ordered Mutuku to be detained until March 28.

Since then, very little has been reported about Mutuku's whereabouts as well as the status of the case.

The big question is, where is Mr Mutuku?

Mutuku, a graduate of Nairobi University who likes sharing his life happenings with social media friends, seems to be enjoying another aspect of life.

He recently posted a video on Facebook taking part in a motorbike race in Kiambu County.

The IT expert is also accused of making away with an unspecified amount of money after hacking NIC bank and a telecommunications company in March 2015.
