Retired President Daniel Arap Moi, despite being 15 years into retirement, is still considered one of the biggest 'behind the scenes' politicians in Kenya.

Moi is said to be among the powerful individuals running the political arena from their living rooms, with there also being claims that he is President Uhuru Kenyatta's political teacher.

This, therefore, means that with the 2022 race for state house already taking shape, the former head of state is likely to influence Kenyatta's decisions ahead of the 2022 presidential elections, especially the anticipated succession between Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

President Kenyatta will obviously seek for his advice based on their closeness and his vast experience in political issues.

The situation is likely to further toughen should his son and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi decides to vie for the seat, a scenario that, it comes to pass, will force Moi to sacrifice the well being of either his son or Kenyatta whom he has groomed to the presidency.

Should Gideon rise up against Ruto, with both being members of the Kalenjin community, some lobbying will be needed and Moi, who is most likely to side with his son, could, to some extent, have to drum up support for his boy.

On the other hand, should Gideon let Ruto have his way, Moi will again have to endorse the Deputy President for the sake of Uhuru, who has since vowed to fully back Ruto when the time comes, giving him an upper hand especially on the Rift Valley region.

This leaves Moi in the middle of the 2022 political circle, with more remaining to be seen as the date draws near.
