Life is no longer safe for lesbians and gays refugees living at the Kakuma camp after unknown people circulated threat messages around the camp hence casting fear on them.

The notes that have been posted around the camp is asking the LGBT refugees to leave the camp immediately or else they will be killed one by one.

“This is to inform all men and women (gays) living in Kakuma Zone 1, Block 1, whatever you have been doing has to come to an end. We have kept quiet for some time. You must leave the camp because you have spoiled our religion and children. If you don’t leave the camp, we are going to kill you one by one and we mean it. Enough is enough,” read the warning.

The threat notes are coming in just a day after the minority gays and lesbians community held a pride festival in the camp, the event was showcased at South Africa Broadcasting Corporation. (SABC).

Kakuma camp is home to over 185,000 refugees it is also a safe haven for over 200 members of the LGBT community with many coming from Uganda where they escaped victimisation.
