Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has ruled out any possibility that he will pair up with Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential election.
Speaking to journalists at his Machakos office on Sunday, Governor Mutua said that he has no thoughts of being someone's running- mate, noting that his focus is on the presidency.
The Machakos Governor said that those hoping to have him as a running mate in 2022 should thank twice and opt for other options.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party leader said that his bid to be president is unstoppable, noting that no amount of lobbying from political circles will have him drop the ambition.
“I have no plans of being a running-mate to someone in the 2022 presidential election and those speculating such claims should stop,” he said.
Governor Mutua said that he is politically mature to run for the seat and deliver development to the country.
He stated that the country needs visionary and transformative leaders who will chart the development agenda forward.
The Machakos Governor vowed to put a spirited campaign in 2022 that will see him clinch the top seat.
Mutua reiterated his call on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to endorse his 2022 bid.
He said that with Kalonzo and the larger Ukambani support will help him sell his agenda to the rest of the country and clinch the top seat in 2022.
There have been claims that Governor Mutua is among top politicians Deputy President William Ruto could pick as a running mate in 2022.
The deputy President is banking on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s support in 2022. Ruto is expected to fly the Jubilee ticket as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) he signed with President Kenyatta.
Governor Mutua is among top politicians who have declared an interest in the top seat come 2022.
Others are Mombasa governor Hassan Joho, Amason Kingi (Governor Kilifi), NASA deputy leader Kalonzo Musyoka among others.
The 2022 succession politics is already playing out in Jubilee Party and NASA as politicians lobby and strategize for the 2022 general election.
