Did you know that Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was arguably the most mistreated and high profile political leader in the nation's history?

Despite serving the nation via his active involvement for the push for independence, Oginga got very less out of it and ended up being mistreated by the man he fought for and indirectly put in power.

Despite being the first Vice President, serving right under his then close friend and boss Mzee Jomo Kenyatta whom he preferred for Presidency over himself, when the nation got independence, Jaramogi received very few goodies from the government.

For instance, despite being in power for close to a year before moving into the opposition after a fallout with Kenyatta, Jaramogi never had electricity in his rural home in Nyamira Bondo, Siaya county.

This is likely to have been fuelled by his unending fights with the ruling leaders, as he was similarly involved in a row with Daniel Moi who succeeded Jomo Kenyatta.

Also, there was no tarmac joining the home to the nearby main road and the leader would die in 1994, almost 30 years in politics, without seeing electricity in his home.

The power would then be connected in 1995, a year after the Luo political leader, a teacher, an author and the Bondo MP's demise.
