According to Kikuyu legislator Kimani Ichung’wa, the political competition between Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi may scuttle the DP’s chances of clinching power because the rivalry may split the populous Kalenjin community vote.

Speaking on Saturday, the MP observed that Ruto was nearer to the throne than the retired President Daniel Arap Moi’s son and asked the younger Moi to drop his bid and back his Kalenjin ‘brother’ in his ambition to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“The Rift Valley region cannot continue providing the stage for political theatrics while other regions are focusing on development. On the 2022 question, there are no two bulls in the Rift Valley, we only know one which is Ruto,” he said.

Ichung’wa claimed that the Mount Kenya region, under the leadership of President Kenyatta, had agreed unanimously to support Ruto to be Kenya’s fifth Head of State.

“We want to end the leadership of dynasties in this country and this can only be achieved if we vote in the Deputy President in 2022. I want to assure Kenyans that he will clinch it by all means,” the lawmaker reiterated.

The second-time MP spoke during the burial of Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim at Mochongoi in Baringo County.

The ceremony was attended by Ruto, Moi among a host of other national leaders.
