Speaking on Radio Sauti ya Mwananchi's 'Cheche' on Saturday, Koigi said the government's ongoing probe lacks goodwill and is likely to deliberately leave out key suspects.

He said that the government's silence and failure to enlist the horticultural proprietor, Mansukul Patel, among the top suspects in the tragedy that cost 47 lives is proof that he could be free from prosecution.

"Patel has not been mentioned anywhere despite the fact that the tragedy directly points at him and his farm. It is possible that he has again found his way out and could escape punishment," he said.

He also poked holes into the government's compensation plan that has since been established to help the victims of the tragedy reestablish their lives.

He said that the 30, 000 and 50, 000 shillings  offered to tenants and land owners respectively will be of very little help to the people, some of whom lost everything in the ordeal.

"The money is too little and won't be of any importance to the victims. The government should consider giving additional funds," he added.
