Even before Machakos County boss Dr. Alfred Mutua completes his second term in office, analysts are already debating about his potential successor. Constitutionally, Mutua will not be defending his seat since he would have ended his two terms in office. Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti stands a better chance of becoming the next governor of Machakos come 2022.

Ndeti has been very vocal on matters affecting the common mwananchi. In the last general election, the outspoken politician gave the Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement leader a run for his money.

The fact that she crossed over from Chama Cha Uzalendo to Wiper made her a stronger competitor to the county boss. The influence of Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka in the region made the situation tougher for Mutua, who defected from Wiper.

The county boss had to pitch tents across the region to convince the people to re-elect him despite having an impressive record which he constantly said speaks for itself.

However, Ndeti is not guaranteed a win in 2022. The dynamics of the politics of this nation leaves her on her toes for the next five years. The political will have to maintain stronger ties with Kalonzo to be better placed to replace Mutua.
