The national electricity seller has been asked to think of other ways of setting up power lines since their poles are now spread everywhere.

Speaking as he graced the Uasin Gishu Infrastructure Forum, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago warned that he will soon give out a notice against the erection of poles.

"...and Kenya Power, I will soon give you a notice against erecting poles. You cannot have poles everywhere," said Mandago.

According to the governor, the parastatal needs to find other ways of setting up power lines as poles technology is now monotonous.

"We cannot stick to a technology that is over 200 years old yet we claim to be living in changing times," added Mandago.

He said Kenya Power should consider underground transmission to spare land for development.

He added: "We need to travel, marvel and learn what developed worlds are doing. We cannot be travelling overseas and coming back to do what we have been doing, otherwise, what do these trips mean?".

"These hanging clothes-like lines need to be faced off if we are in the path of developing," opined Mandago.

The forum brought together stakeholders of infrastructure to deliberate on design plans even as Eldoret awaits the City status.

Kenya Power, KeNHA, KURA, KERRA, Kenya Pipeline, Eldowas, Kenya Airports Authority and Kenya Police were represented by their North Rift managers.

Mandago cited Malaysia as one of the countries that are facing away from the physical power poles.

Funnily enough, the Asian country has an economy way lower than Kenya's raising concerns on what ails Kenya.

Managers kept on making notes as Mandago gave out bold ideas across all sectors.
