The Wiper MP argues that NYS has become a 'cash cow' to some top government officials who are looting its resources.

The MP says there is no point of the government allocating money to the agency for it to be looted by greedy government officials.

In an interview with the People Daily on Tuesday, the Wiper MP said he will petition for the disbandment of the National Youth Service.

Maanzo stated that it will be better if NYS is incorporated to a certain Ministry as a department to save taxpayers money.

He said that as it stands now the National Youth Service has been exposed to some greedy state officials who are out to drain it.

"It is time the government disbanded NYS and dealt firmly with individuals who have been linked to graft at the agency," he said on Monday.

The Wiper MP called for a speedy probe into the fresh Sh9 billion NYS scandal.

"The national government must move with speed in probing corruption cases because Kenyans want to see graft perpetrator's being jailed" he added.

Maanzo said that unless corruption is tackled, the country might not achieve her development agenda.

The alleged Sh9 billion fresh graft scandal at the National Youth Service has angered Kenyans who are now demanding action.

Last week, Public Service PS Lilian Omollo and NYS director general Richard Ndambiri alongside other top officials were forced to step aside to pave way for investigations.

On Monday, the officials recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

This not the first time graft is being reported at the NYS.

In 2015, Sh791 million was allegedly looted at the agency.

The scandal saw the then Devolution CS Anne Waiguru resigned.

Top government officials among the then Devolution Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti and the then NYS Director General Nelson Githinji were arrested and charged in court.

However, the officials were acquitted of the corruption charges by a Milimani Anti-Corruption court in March on grounds that there was no evidence linking them to the charges.
