Witeithie Ward MCA Julius Macharia (in a tie) pose for a photo with a group of children who were last week rehabilitated to school. [Photo/Facebook/Julius Macharia]Witeithie Ward MCA Julius Macharia has started a drive that will see all children in his ward who have reached the school-going age but are not in school, enrolled immediately.Macharia has said that there no reason whatsoever why a child who should be in school should be left to wander in the villages without something being done."In our desire to make school accessible to everyone in my ward, last week my team was engaged in taking records of all the kids who have not enrolled to classes or dropped out due to one reason or the other," said Macharia on Monday at Witeithie. He added: "We took the first lot last week and today we managed to take the remaining lot and sort their needs. We are united to make Witeithie shine."The MCA noted that education was free from primary to day-school secondary schools and, therefore, the responsibility of everyone and more so the elected leaders to ensure that all children accessed education.Macharia said that they will extend the exercise to touch on teenagers who had completed class 8 but had opted to stay at home 'for no reason'."We want a responsible Witeithie population that can be looked upon in future. This will, however, not be achievable if we leave our children to sit pretty at home without going to school. Government is already spending billions of shillings on free education programme which we should ensure we benefit from," he said.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kiambu that you want Hivisasa to cover?
