"We carried out the Mombasa peak hour traffic decongestion plan of introducing the Happy Hour and the results were encouraging. We managed to greatly reduce the traffic jam along the pilot route," the department said in an update.

The exercise would start at 5:30pm or anytime between 5:30pm to 6:00pm depending with tailback in Bondeni and Saba Saba area.

The County Government's Traffic Unit said "this will help us lessen drastically the traffic jam once the happy hour is over as all 4 lanes will be available for a single direction traffic flow. Its only for 5 minutes, but it will clear the traffic backlog."
