The County Government of Mombasa through the Department of Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works will from Thursday, February 21, introduce "Traffic Happy Hour" that will last for 5 minutes.
While targeting motorists coming from Mombasa Island to Nyali, the department, with help of traffic officers and traffic marshals will be closing incoming lane to Town from BP Shell Links - Fidel Odinga Road all the way to Coast General Hospital junction.
Both lanes going to Nyali from Coast General to Abdalla Farsy Road Junction will then be opened.
In a public notice, the Transport department said the exercise will start 5:30pm or anytime between 5:30pm to 6:00pm today depending with tailback in Bondeni and Saba Saba areas.

The County Government's Traffic Unit said "this will help us lessen drastically the traffic jam once the happy hour is over as all 4 lanes will be available for a single direction traffic flow. Its only for 5 minutes, but it will clear the traffic backlog."
Meanwhile, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has alerted residents in Mombasa that sections of A8 road within Mombasa town; that is from Saba saba to Makande, a stretch of approximately 1km will remain closed for a period of 6 months starting Wednesday, February 20, to facilitate the ongoing rehabilitation works.
KeNHA Director General Eng Peter Mundinia, through a public notice in local dailies requested residents to comply with traffic officers who will be directing them to alternative routes.
"We are sorry for the inconveniences brought about by these new developments," he said.
