USA Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has called upon Kenyan women to ensure they register as voters.
He says this will benefit them and give them the ability to vote in many women as political leaders in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the International Women's Day on Tuesday, in DC Kibera, the ambassador said the only way women can empower themselves is by voting for more women who will fight for their rights.
“We all know in Kenya we have more eligible women who can vote and there is need to register as voters,” he said.
He also called upon political leaders to be in the forefront in encouraging Kenyans to register as voters as it is a right of every citizen.
In the same event, the coordinator of the Council of Kibera Women for Peace and Fairness, Jane Anyango said that it is the duty of mothers to come out and run for various positions in government in the next general election.
“We women we are ready to ensure that we get the top positions in the next general elections and we need to ensure we make it a reality,’’ she said.
