A conservation expert has expressed concern over the level at which irresponsible human activities were leading to environmental degradation.
However, Bahati Forest Station Extension Officer Thomas Mwiwa, said the situation can be averted with proper education and adaptation of pro-environmental activities.
Speaking at the forest station on Wednesday after hosting the Young Conservatives, a group of students from Egerton University committed to conserving the environment, Mwiwa said that some avoidable activities were as a result of continuous loss of trees in the country.
“The responsibility starts with you, there is a universal saying which states that ‘cut one tree, plant two’, who does that nowadays?” he posed.
Mwiwa challenged Kenyans to be part of the revolution arguing that if nothing was done, the country was destined to a pathetic situation in future.
“The situation will be worse in the near future if no measures are implemented. We got to embrace the culture of planting trees to secure our environment,” he advised.
He further revealed that his office in collaboration with the county government and other institutions, they plan to launch a campaign beginning September to necessitate planting of trees in schools, public grounds and even residential homes.
