IEBC has been blamed for the low turnout at voter registration points.
Kisii Central ward representative aspirant Nickson Nyakweba said that most of the area residents were not properly informed about the exercise. Nyakweba also blamed IEBC for contracting few clerks per ward noting that the commission may not achieve its target.
“IEBC was not prepared for this exercise. First, they did not conduct proper civic education and there are few clerks compared to the area of coverage. For instance, my ward only has two clerks which makes it a challenge to reach out to many people,” he said.
The politician challenged the commission to use the media in announcing centres where their clerks are posted so as to make the exercise effective.
“The commission should use vernacular radio stations and other media outlets to announce their different registration points in order to reach and register voters,” added Nyakweba.
He also called on the voters to come out in large numbers and register before time elapses.
