Kibera residents are in fear that they could be consuming donkey meat from butcheries in the area.

Speaking this afternoon at Soweto village, Kibera, Stephen Okoth, a resident, said that butcher operators have turned out to be greedy and could be selling donkey meat to make more money.

“I know donkeys are used to provide labour on our farms but due to greed and selfish acts from butchers, innocent animals are being slaughtered. This is inhumane,” said Okoth.

He noted that Kibera butchers may also develop this bad habit and purchase the donkey meat from Naivasha to sell to residents in the slums.

“Before buying meat from butcheries ensure that you have seen the type of meat you are buying. Let us take care and protect donkeys as they provide good labour to our homes,'' he said.
