A group of Kisii county residents have questioned the relationship between Governor James Ongwae and a host of area Members of Parliament, saying their differences are ‘detrimental’ to the economic development of the region.

This comes moments after a host of MPs snubbed official opening of Kisii county entrepreneurship summit at Kisii university grounds.

Only Senator Chris Obure and women representative Mary Otara joined officials of the county government at the function with nine legislators failing to turn up.

The residents led by Obed Makworo questioned the relationship existing between the county government and the MPs and demanded an explanation from the county leadership.

“It’s a big shame that we can hold an entrepreneurial summit where the unity of our leaders should be shown but only ending up being embarrassed. We want to know whether the county government made an effort to invite the nine legislators because their absence is detrimental to our economic development,” he said.

They urged county governor James Ongwae to take responsibility for the ‘mess’ and convene a crisis meeting to discuss the unity among area leaders.

“We cannot tolerate these political differences anymore because they are sabotaging our development our leaders ought to work as a team regardless of their political inclinations. It’s now the responsibility of the Governor to invite the leaders and iron out any differences among them because they can no longer deny it for the good of our people,” added Makworo.

Governor Ongwae has been having a hot and cold relationship with a number of MPs since he took over in 2013 and recently, Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka accused him of nepotism in the allocation of county jobs.
