Athi River sub-county has received a new deputy county commissioner.
Albert Kimathi has finally settled at his new office in Athi River town few weeks after it was handed over to it by the former area deputy county commissioner Kodeck Makori.
Makori who officially handed over the office to the new commissioner on February 15, 2016 was celebrated by various leaders and members of the public from the sub-county in a historic farewell party organized for him by the locals on February 17, 2016 at an Athi hotel.
Addressing this reporter at his office in Athi River town on Monday, Kimathi said he had gone to hand over the office in his former station during Makori’s farewell party.
“I wished to be part of the party but unfortunately, could not since I had gone to Daadab sub-county to equally hand over my former office to the incoming deputy county commissioner, I could have delayed her settling in her new office if I failed to travel the same day,” said Kimathi.
Kimathi said he is happy to be deployed in Athi River sub-county of the Machakos county which he argued was not new to him.
He said he had worked at a division in the county as a divisional officer long time ago in 1987 before rising to rank of a district commissioner with deployments to various districts across the country.
The commissioner said he has wealth of experience in the job given that he has been in service as a commissioner for many years alongside working in hardship areas such as North Eastern region and recently in Daadab which he said was a war torn area with lots of insecurity issues when he was deployed there.
Kimathi thanked residents from Athi River sub-county for warmly welcoming him in the region stating he wished they will cooperate to enable him serve them more effective and efficiently.
