Sarang’ombe residents in Kibera have been advised to take preventive measures to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases.

Speaking on Monday morning at Sarang’ombe area, Ann Magoma, a resident said that the area is currently having a problem of poor drainage and this is making dirty water from living premises flow into blocked water channels. She urged residents to ensure they do not allow children to play around such dirty environment.

"Residents are at high risks of contracting diseases, therefore, they should look for ways to unblock and keep away stagnant water in the drainage system at living premises,” said Ms Magoma.

She further added that residents of Sarang’ombe should boil water for drinking since the chances of cholera outbreak in the area are high.

"Dirty environment leads to contamination of water sources since water pipes are laid on the ground some passing through poorly drained channels. For residents to be on the safer side, I urge them to boil water before drinking,” she said.
