A committee comprising various stakeholders has come up with measures to tackle congestion in the rapidly growing Kisii county headquarters.

Members of the committee include county officials drawn from three dockets, namely Lands Physical Planning and Urban Development, Roads and Transport and Environment and Administration, two MCAs and other stakeholders.

Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development Chief Officer Alice Nyariki said part of the plans will include opening new roads and ensuring proper disposal of waste.

Nyariki said they also intend to rein in motorists who don't adhere to parking regulations and traders who sell food in the open as well as ensure road users accessing the town centre obey the set speed limits.

Nyariki said the committee will engage various stakeholders through their leaders with a view to making them own the initiative through respect of the rule of law and county bylaws.
