Nakuru deputy Governor Joseph Rutto has told off a section of leaders proposing to have the county divided into two regions on allegations of skewed development in some areas.
Speaking in his office in Nakuru on Monday, Rutto said leaders coming up with such proposals are living in the past era.
He said all areas in the county receive equal attention from the county government and have been receiving funds for development regardless of the tribe(s) living there.
“I have heard some are now saying that we should divide Nakuru into two because I don’t know we have this tribe and this tribe; I am telling them that it will not happen because Nakuru is for all,” he said.
The deputy county boss said together with Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, they came up with an effective plan where all wards in the county receive Sh25 million for development and implemented by order of priority.
“Nakuru is cosmopolitan and because of this, we sat with the governor and we decide that every ward should receive Sh25 million for development. Every MCA receives his money and he prioritises his projects in his area and implements them so there is no point in dividing the county into two,” he said.
On Sunday, a group of elders purporting to be Kalenjin elders, bashed Governor Mbugua for sidelining Kalenjins in development projects.
