Kit Mikai Technical Training Institute in Seme Sub County has benefitted from a Sh2.3 million classroom funded by French government.

French Ambassador Rémi Marechaux on Thursday commissioned the project saying his government was committed to supporting middle level technical training in the country.

He noted that technical institutions are scarce in the country, yet 90 per cent of the country’s economy depends on the technical skills.

According to Marechaux, the support done through community based organisations is aimed at increasing training opportunities to school dropouts and those who fail to join universities.

He said every community has its own challenges, and that is the reason why his government has been working with the CBOs to identify them and help support in providing the solutions.

“Technical colleges are key element in the fight against youth unemployment by creating local skills that help boost local economies, and France is a partner in promoting the technical know how through supporting such institutions,” said Marechaux.

He added: “The last time I visited the building was in September 2015, it was under construction. I am proud to witness today the hard work that had been accomplished. The solutions to the challenges facing this area can only be solved by the locals, and our contribution is only to support and motivate you in whatever you aspire to achieve.”

The institution had been operating on iron sheet structures and the construction of the two new classrooms is expected to improve the learning conditions
