Thika deputy OCPD Mary Kiarie has cautioned youths in the area against being lured into drug abuse by cartels.

Speaking in Majengo estate in Thika on Thursday, Kiarie asked youths to be careful with the people they associate with, saying that some selfish people could be recruiting innocent youths into the drugs business.

The deputy police boss said several people have been arrested in the last few days with drugs, adding that police have mounted up an operation to get rid of drug cartels in the area.

Kiarie said with closure of schools, some youths could be tempted to engage in drug abuse activities.

“We are asking youths to keep off people who want to influence or force to engage in drug abuse activities,” she said.

She warned that drug peddlers will be dealt with according to the law.

The Thika deputy OCPD urged parents and guardians to monitor activities of their children.

She said the move will enable parents to know the kind of people their children associate with and how they spend their free time.

“I am urging parents and guardians within Thika to ensure they monitor activities of their kids this festive and holiday season to ensure that they don’t go astray or are influenced by bad people,” she stated.

Kiarie warned that police will not hesitate to arrest young people found engaging in unlawful activities.
