Nakuru Lands CeC Rachael Maina has called on young people to use the available resources to make an impact in their lives rather than sit back and call on the government to intervene.

Speaking while commissioning a market stall construction project in Nakuru, Ms Maina expressed concerns over the growing number of unemployed youth, saying that unemployment was a worldwide crisis affecting many countries.

“Personal growth starts by realising your own worth and coming out with a working formula that will ensure that everything you do never demeans your worth,” she advised, adding that the problem of a majority of young people was that they expect too much from others and making little contribution.

The CeC applauded young people who take the initiative of even hawking for survival, exuding confidence that the stalls will be a real life changer to them.

“I want our youth to stop hawking from the streets because of lack of business premises, this project is meant for them,” she said.

Ms Maina called on parents and care givers to help their children acquire tertiary education so that they can use the knowledge attained to fend for themselves.

“We complain of lack of job opportunities but when one arises, we lack people with the relevant qualifications to fill the position. What I am saying, let’s go to colleges and other post-secondary institutions to be holistic persons,” she noted.

The project which is initiated in conjunction with the county’s Youth Enterprise Fund office is aimed at constructing more than 150 modern market stalls to create an enabling trading environment for the youth.
