The Nakuru County University Students association (NACUSA) leader Joseph Kariuki has been forced to defend his meeting with the governor after coming under scathing attacks from a section of youth from Nakuru.

Kariuki who met Governor Kinuthia Mbugua on Thursday during the governor's outreach programme in Molo sub-county has been accused of being compromised by the executive to tone down on his criticism on the County administration.

“We met the governor as citizens of Nakuru County and aired our side of the story. As leaders, we see no reason to keep complaining without seeking answers from those in power,” retaliated Kariuki in a terse statement.

Kariuki and his fellow student leaders have in the recent past been in the forefront in criticizing what they see as bad governance in the county and demanding for accountability from various county offices.

Some section of youths in the county see his meeting with the governor together with other NACUSA leaders as a ploy to have them support the governor in his reelection bid.

“Meeting any leader does not guarantee that we shall vote for the leader. NACUSA members make their own independent decisions on who to vote for and we cannot purport to decide for them,” said Kariuki.

He finished by saying that they will meet the governor or any other leader whenever they have anything to share.
