A public secondary school in Kisii South sub-county which closed abruptly soon after reopening this term has resumed its learning activities.
Nyasagati Secondary School closed briefly after parents demonstrated against the management of the institution and withdrew their children following an alleged standoff with the school’s management.
Parents pulled out more than 600 children citing lack of discipline and poor administration at the institution.
They cited non-issuance of report forms and wastage of learning time, saying pupils were always idling in the school compound and the neighbouring locality.
The parents led by Harriet Kebaso said the school management had raised school fees beyond their capacity and that’s why they decided to demonstrate and get the issue solved.
“We were here when the school reopened and we got the school management had raised the school fees from the regular Sh19,000 per year to Sh 26,000 per year,” she added.
The parents thanked the involvement of the sub-county education officer now that the school fees have been reduced.
According to the school principal Richard Raini, the parents have agreed to shelve their personal interests in the running of the school hence the decision to let their children resume learning at the school.
Raini said both parties were to blame for the alleged poor management of the public school.
