Ongwae says this will ensure women acquire leadership and management skills needed to better perform their mandates when they assume leadership positions.

He said he will initiate talks with the university's management to find a way  of having courses modeled along the local women leadership specialisation.

The governor added that he would have the county government sponsor women leaders from Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) across the county among other women leaders for university training to empower them.

Speaking at Gusii Stadium on Sunday during a funds drive in aid of Kisii MYWO branch, Ongwae said this would not the first initiative by the county government to sponsor the training of women leaders.

He said they had done the same when fifty women were sponsored to train at the Co-operative College of Kenya, now the Co-operative University College of Kenya where they acquired skills on co-operative management and entrepreneurship.

"I will talk to the Kisii University Vice Chancellor, Prof John Akama to find out a way of the university introducing tailor-made courses for women leaders from MYWO, to ensure they acquire required skills to manage the affairs of the women movement," he said.

Ongwae said his administration was keen on ensuring the economic empowerment of women saying they constitute the bedrock of the county's economy.

"Women play a critical role in the achievement of the  County's socio-economic development agenda. That is the reason why they take a central role in my administration," he added.
