Residents in Kibera have been asked to spend their money sparingly this festive season and plan for their children's school fees and other expenses.
Speaking in Olympic Kibera on Friday afternoon, Elidanus Osamo, a shop owner in the area said residents especially those with children in schools should not misuse funds on Christmas celebrations.
he said they should instead be wise and ensure that come January, they have money to pay school fees and other bills such as water, electricity and rent.
"I know many of us this festive season are going to misuse money travelling, attending parties, buying expensive clothes, shoes, food and drinks forgetting that next year is around the corner where parents are to pay school fees, rent and electricity bills. Let us be keen on how to spend this festive season that involves a lot of expenditure,” said Elidanus
“From salaries earned, gift and shopping vouchers given this Christmas season, include school shopping and save some for next year’s so that you don't fall into a financial crisis," he advised.
“Also, avoid too much borrowing from groups and chamas which may bring problems early next year. Make Christmas expenditure simple depending on your salary otherwise you may start the year in a crisis,” concluded the shopkeeper.
