Yatta sub-county residents who benefit from Yatta canal water to irrigate their farms have complained of water shortage.

River Athi which is the source of water for the canal that extends to Thika in Kiambu county has been flooded over the last two months.

The project was started on July 2015 to benefit residents through provision of water to irrigate their farms but residents have expressed their fear that they might suffer big losses from their shambas as water in the canal has reduced in a vast rate for the last two weeks and some of their plantations have dried up.

"I wonder whether the county government of Machakos started the project to make us suffer at some point. I would like to urge the involved people to sort out the problem before it is too late," said Kithete Wambua.
