The county government of Nyamira has been lauded for releasing Sh11 million for the construction of Magombo open market.

The project is among a series of similar projects that were initiated by county governor John Nyagarama aimed at constructing at least one market per ward.

Led by area MCA Ezra Mochiemo, they hailed the county government for the allocation, saying the market will enable residents sell and buy products without interruption from sunny or rainy seasons.

“On behalf of my constituents, I would like to thank the county government for giving the funds for the projects. The new market will be instrumental in improving the working conditions of our business people around. They will no longer be interrupted by rainy or sunny conditions,” he said.

According to him, the market will also be equipped with modern toilets and lighting systems to allow residents trade till midnight.

“The county is promoting 24-hour  economy and we have spoken with the contractor so that the market is installed with lighting systems. We are also expecting modern toilets to promote sanity within the trading environment,” he said.

Mochiemo also said the market would create jobs for locals since security guards and cleaners are set to be recruited.

"A few of our residents will be employee to guard the market and also cleaners. This is a boost to our people because the project will have created jobs in one way or the other. Ultimately, my people will have a conducive place to carry out their trading,” he added.
