Nyamira residents have been asked to volunteer and go for diabetes tests.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday in Nyamira town, County Chief Officer for Health, Douglas Bosire revealed that research shows majority of residents in the county do not seek for diabetic tests.

He said the county in conjunction with Kenyatta National Hospital will have a free medical camp on Saturday (November 14) to enable residents have the opportunity and get tested for diabetes.

He urged residents to take advantage of the free camp and get tested to know their status, adding that early detection would ensure successful treatment of the disease.

"I ask residents to take advantage of the free medical camp that will take place on Saturday the same day the world will be marking World Diabetes Day," said the chief officer.

He added: "Not only the elderly persons are affected by the disease as believed, nowadays, even children get affected and their universal testing will be done."
