History of fires in Kibera has been rampant leaving many people homeless and property destroyed.
Most of the affected areas are Mashimoni and Darajani. The response by the fire brigade team is quite slow and has complained about by the residents. However, it emerged that the fire fighters used to find it hard to put out fires since the area is very congested to allow them carry out the exercise.
Another challenge that led to the spread fires is poor transport network. The roads are in a very poor state that it makes it difficult for the fire fighter vehicle to access the areas. The causes of the fire are attributed to carelessness of the residents who leave heaters on when power is out.
On Sunday night, however, the fire that brought down several stalls at Olympic was caused by an electrical fault. Dixon Dismas, a resident at Olympic said the cases had reduced in the area and asked the Kenya Power and Lightening Company to repair all faulty electricity lines in the area.
