Two Kisii MPs have dismissed claims that they demanded bribes amounting to Sh2 million from the county leadership in exchange for attending the opening session of the entrepreneurial summit.
All nine MPs from the region were trolled by county residents in the official social media accounts of the county for allegedly asking for bribes with many residents calling for their resignation.
However, Bobasi MP Stephen Manoti and his Kitutu Chache South counterpart Richard Onyonka have dismissed the claims as 'innuendos and political theatrics' and accused county leadership of spreading propaganda.
“I have received many text messages on the same and also seen the on social media," said Onyonka.
"These are just innuendos and cheap politics by county officials because I understand they have financed some jobless youths to taint our names," added the legislator.
"Personally, I didn’t attend the opening session because I was busy in parliament,” concluded Onyonka.
Manoti on his part dismissed the allegation as political theatrics and defended his absence saying he had a busy schedule in his constituency.
“For heaven sake, I can’t ask for bribes to attend a development summit. Despite my political differences with the county leadership I had intended to attend but serious commitment in my constituency kept me away," said Onyonka.
"I am sad that some of our people can get involved in political theatrics which is basically outdated,” he added.
The event at Kisii University was snubbed by all nine MPs from the region and was only attended by MCAs, Senator Chris Obure, Women Rep Mary Otara and county government executives with Cord leader Raila Odinga being the chief guest.
