Yatta sub- county's needy students have a reason to smile after their MP, Francis Mwangangi gave out sh10 million to boost their education.
The money is set to benefit all needy students in the area starting from secondary school students to university level students.
Speaking during handing over the money to CDF officials in Matuu town, Mwangangi apologised for the delay in the distribution of the funds. He said no needy students would be left out once the money starts being distributed so the long as the student is in school.
"It’s my joy to give out the money which I am sure will help the education sector in the sub-county,’’ said Mwangangi.
The MP used the platform to encourage the Yatta people to continue registering themselves as a voter, which he emphasised, was the only way to elect leaders of their own choices.
‘‘I would like to thank all people who have already registered as voters and encourage those who have not yet done so, to go for it,’’ he said.
Mwangangi also gave out a cheque worth sh13.2 million which he said was to be used to begin different projects in the sub-county.
He was accompanied by the director of education in the county, Elikana Nyaga who noted the improvement in the KCSE 2015 results.
"I don’t want Yatta to lag behind but I just want consistent improvement in final exams. In the 2015 KCSE results, students made us proud by improving from 4.47 to 4.62,’’said Nyaga.
