President Uhuru Kenyatta risks being a one term president if he fails to drop his political and legal advisors, a section of Nyamira politicians have said.
Led by Manga Ward MCA Peter Maroro, the politicians accused the president’s advisors of wrong guidance on key issues that they said is partly to blame for the the various crises the country is facing.
In an apparent reference to the court ruling compelling the government to increase the teachers' pay that the State has defied, the leaders accused the advisors of failing to read the mood of the public.
“We respect the President but I think his political and legal team is misleading him. Time has come for him to come up with a group that will give accurate and timely advises on key issues. You can all see how they have handled the teachers’ issues,” he said.
They said the worrying trend where the president was continually finding himself on the ‘wrong’ side of the law should be a big concern to him if he intends to seek re-election.
“It’s not just teachers but also matters security and general administration. If the trend of misinterpretation of the law persists, then I see the President facing a major defeat in the 2017 election,” added Mekenene MCA Alfayo Ngeresa.
They urged the President to drop the team and replace it with ‘fresh’ minds that could help save the country from persistent crisis that emanates from wrong legal interpretation.
Part of president’s team of advisors comprise Attorney General Githu Muigai and former MPs Abdikadir Mohammed and Joshua Kutuny.
