Residents of Kiabiraa village are counting loses after heavy rains destroyed their crops on Thurday.
The rain that poured for almost an hour accompanied by hailstones also killed several animals.
According to one farmer, James Morara, the downpour caught many residents by surprise.
“It killed my two cows and I would have even taken them to shelter in my house had I been forewarned. I am now back to square one," said Morara.
Elsewhere in Nyamage Village of Kisii County, two homesteads were swept away by storm waters following the heavy downpour in the region and several animals also killed.
Evans Nyagaka, whose goats were killed during the afternoon rains, said that he had planned to sell them and use the money to pay school fees for his son’s school fees who is in college.
“I don’t know who to turn to now because I don't have any other source of income," said Nyagaka.
The weather forecast department has warned Kenyans on the expected heavy rains, and several county governments have already set up emergency kitties.
