A 17-year-old teenager on Tuesday pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter before in a Nakuru court.
The minor had written a letter through his lawyer Peter Chege on September 23, notifying the court of his intention to change his plea.
In the letter, he said he acknowledged the responsibility he was taking by pleading guilty to manslaughter.
He is accused of causing the death of Lpartunoi Lekepees on June 20, 2014, at Loosuk area in Maralal in Samburu County.
The two had allegedly been involved in a scuffle before the accused hit the deceased on the head with a club, who later died while undergoing treatment.
A postmortem report is said to have indicated that Lekepee died from cardiac arrest and severe head injuries.
On July 17, 2014, the court ordered for the minor's age assessment, and a medical report from Nakuru Provincial Hospital dated July 26, 2014, indicated that he was an adolescent who was fit to stand trial
On Tuesday, his lawyers told Justice Maureen Odero that the minor did not intend to kill Mr Lekepees and had only acted in self defence.
“The accused is a minor and we pray for lenient conviction. The two the families have reconciled and everything is well between them,” said Chege
The court ordered a probation report before it makes its verdict.
The case will be mentioned on October 16.
