Nakuru farmers have been advised to seek services of agriculture extension officers especially on appropriate fertilisers and seeds before embarking on planting.

The chairman Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Nakuru branch, John Karanja said most farmers are not keen on finding the most suitable fertilisers and seeds and purchase them based on price without seeking information from experts.

''I know most of you are just go to shop and buy any kind of fertiliser and seeds. You should stop that because it is contributing to low yields,'' he said.

He encouraged farmers to make use of extension officers and have soils from their farms tested so that they are advised on the suitability of the seed variety and farm chemicals to use.

He was speaking on Thursday in Nakuru Town during farmers meeting organised by farmers from all sub-counties in Nakuru.

"For any farmer to succeed, he must work hand in hand with experts so that he can be a ware of challenges facing farmers and how to curb them," he added.

He said the extension officers are employed by the government to help farmers overcome various challenges that they may face.

''Make use of this officers are employed to feed you with knowledge,'' he said.
