A 36-year-old woman was on Tuesday charged before a Kisumu law court with assaulting her co-worker.

The suspect, Marion Akothe, denied assaulting Purity Ochieng on September 14, this year.

According to the prosecution, the caretakers of a rental house in Miwani area, Kisumu got into an argument over an unknown issue.

Akothe is alleged to have lost her temper and attacked Ochieng with a piece of wood injuring her in the process.

The court was told that Ochieng sustained head and back injuries, something that led for her hospitalisation.

The matter was reported to the police who launched investigations into the matter leading to her arrest.

The prosecution wanted the accused remanded for one more week as investigations into the matter were yet to be completed.

Kisumu chief magistrate Lucy Gitari remanded the accused until September 29 when she is expected to make a bail application.

Akothe, however, told the court that she was unwell and remanding her would worsen her health condition.

Gitari ordered the prosecution to accompany the woman to hospital before taking her to remand.
