Kisii based activist Joshua Kiai has raised concern over neglect of the boy child since more emphasis is on the girl-child.

He said the increased cases of boy school dropouts are as a result of more emphasis on the girl-child and forgetting on the boy-child.

“We have put more emphasis on the girl-child and forgetting the boy-child is as vulnerable to the girl-child," said Kiai.

"Cases of school dropouts are on the high among boys which raise concerns,” added Kiai.

He said most boys are dropping out of school and indulge in drug and substance abuse.

"The rate at which our children especially the boys are are dropping out of school and engaging in drug and substance abuse is alarming," said Kiai.

"Our boys have turned into alcoholism, bodaboda businesses and forgetting all about school," he added.

"It is time both the national and county government should make an effort to save the boy-child. The situation should be handled early before it is too late,” he said.

He added that It is high time parents and schools take up the effort to see that the boy-child is also given equal opportunities such as the girl-child citing that even the university cut off points favors the girl-child.
